of apparel, opened her eyes to the possibility of making technical design her

Erickson said that commencement speakers must inspire graduates, family,
friends, faculty and others – but they must lose the clichés:
"Give your own advice
in your own words. We know today is the first day of the rest of our
lives. Last year, for example, Legally Blonde screenwriter Kirsten
Smith told Scripps College’s Class of 2008, ‘Today is
the beginning of your Act 2.’ She nailed it."
